Early/Phase 1 Treatment

Early or Phase 1 Treatment occurs when a young patient, typically between the ages of 6 – 10, has both primary teeth and adult teeth. While not all of our younger patients require Early Treatment, for many Prettyman Ortho patients, it can be beneficial.

Why Early Treatment?

It is always easiest to correct any health issue early-on. Early Treatment addresses any developmental dental issue and will prevent any future problems from becoming more severe.

Early/Phase 1 Treatment does the following:

• Corrects bite problems like open, deep or cross bites
• Guides permanent teeth into a more favorable position
• Corrects harmful oral habits such as thumb sucking
• Alleviates any possible future, more invasive dental correction

Is there a Phase 2 Treatment?

Phase 2, or Comprehensive Treatment, is what most people think of when they think braces–the placement of braces on the upper and lower teeth. A key difference between Early/Phase 1 Orthodontic Treatment and Comprehensive Treatment is that Comprehensive/Phase 2 doesn’t typically begin until most or all of the adult teeth have emerged. Comprehensive Treatment aligns and straightens the teeth and bite resulting in the finished beautiful smile that everyone desires.

Whether your child would be best benefit from Early/Phase 1 Treatment can only be determined by a trained and certified orthodontist. According to the American Association of Orthodontists, the best age to visit an orthodontist is age 7. Prevent future dental health issues and improve your child’s confidence by calling Prettyman Orthodontics today.
